Fridge Van FAQs
What is a fridge van?
A fridge van, also known as a refrigerated van, is a vehicle designed to transport perishable goods at specific low temperatures. It is equipped with a refrigeration unit that maintains a controlled, cool environment inside the cargo area. They come in various sizes, from small to large vans and can operate across short and long distances. The refrigeration unit can be powered by the vehicle's engine or a separate power source.
Why choose a fridge van?
Opting for a refrigerated van is crucial for businesses needing to transport perishable goods safely and effectively. These vehicles provide a controlled, low-temperature environment, essential for preserving items such as food, pharmaceuticals, and flowers.
Fridge vans offer transportation flexibility, enabling businesses to deliver goods over long distances without compromising their condition. Available in various sizes and configurations, they cater to different cargo volumes and needs. For businesses dependent on temperature-sensitive products, a refrigerated van is indispensable for maintaining product integrity and operational efficiency.
What temperature does a fridge van reach?
A fridge van typically reaches temperatures ranging from -25°C to +25°C, depending on the requirements of the transported goods. For standard refrigeration, temperatures are usually kept between 0°C and 8°C, suitable for fresh food and beverages. For frozen goods, temperatures can go as low as -25°C. Some refrigerated vans offer multi-temperature zones within the same vehicle, allowing the transport of different types of products simultaneously.
How long does it take to deliver a fridge van?
If the fridge van is in stock, it's typically available for delivery within 2-4 weeks (approx.) from order. The statutory cooling off period stated by the finance company (usually 14 working days) must expire before delivery of a van can take place. Also, delivery dates are subject to change by the manufacturer and on occasion, delays may occur. If the refrigerated van you want isn’t in stock it will be a factory order so these delivery times can vary but we’ll keep you updated of the vehicle’s progress regularly. We require all of the necessary documentation in place before delivery of a van.
Are fridge vans expensive?
Fridge vans can be relatively expensive compared to standard vans due to their specialised refrigeration equipment and insulation. The cost of a fridge van depends on various factors such as the size, brand, refrigeration technology, and customisation options. However, for businesses needing to transport perishable goods, the investment in a fridge van is crucial for ensuring product quality and safety, ultimately justifying the higher cost.
Leasing fridge vans helps make them more affordable by allowing businesses to acquire them at manageable monthly rates instead of a large upfront purchase cost. Also, it is possible to add servicing and maintenance to most of our van deals for a fixed monthly cost.
Are fridge vans insulated?
Yes, refrigerated vans are insulated to maintain the internal temperature required. The insulation typically consists of high-quality materials like polyurethane foam, which minimises heat transfer and helps keep the cargo area cool. This insulation works in tandem with the refrigeration unit to ensure a stable, controlled environment inside the van, regardless of external weather conditions.
