Pickup Leasing & Contract Hire

Pickup trucks are becoming increasingly popular as a practical vehicle for both work and personal life. Essentially, a pickup is a truck with a separate cab and an open box. They provide excellent towing ability, as well as plenty of carrying space in their load bays. Pickups are known for being robust, highly practical and built for toughness, making them a popular option as primarily a work vehicle. Also, pickups tend to excel at scrambling over challenging off-road terrain. As for the payload, this varies depending on the make, model and cab type you opt for.

Benefits of Pickup Truck Leasing

Here are some of the main benefits of leasing a pickup truck:

  • As a vehicle leasing brokerage, we deal with the major finance companies who negotiate batch deals with manufacturers. This means we can offer you most competitive rates available on pickup trucks, helping keep your monthly costs down.

  • With pickup leasing, you get a brand new pickup truck, featuring the latest technology. Not only are new pickups much more reliable than used ones, but any issues will be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

  • Pickup leasing helps to control your monthly spend by offering a fixed monthly payment for the agreed term of the pickup lease.

  • If you decide to lease a pickup (commercial vehicle) through your business, you can claim 100% VAT back on your monthly payments. Similarly, 100% of the VAT for any maintenance payment is reclaimable. It's important to note that your business must be VAT-registered. Our leasing consultants will be able to explain this in more detail, if required.

  • At GB Vehicle Leasing, our team has been trained to an exceptional standard so that you can be sure you’re getting the right guidance from the very first call with us. Also, our after sales team are always on hand should you have any questions during the time you have the pickup truck.

  • With pickup leasing, you're only paying for the vehicle's depreciation during the time you have it, not the value of the vehicle itself. Because of this, your monthly rentals are usually lower, meaning you can lease a better spec pickup truck than you would have bought.

Pickup Truck FAQs

Here are a few common questions you may have when deciding to lease a pickup truck. If you have any other questions about pickup leasing, please call us on 0161 667 5338.

How does pickup leasing work?

With pickup leasing, you simply pay a small initial amount, usually equivalent to three monthly payments, at the start of the lease. Then each month you pay a fixed monthly payment for the term of the agreed lease. You will have an agreed annual mileage allowance for the pickup lease to meet your requirements (Excess mileage charges will apply if you exceed the contract mileage.) At the end of the lease period (typically two or three years), you simply hand the pickup back.

Note: It is your responsibility to ensure the pickup truck is kept in good condition as you may pay for any damage outside the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear Guide at the end of the contract. It is possible to add servicing and maintenance to most of our lease deals for an additional fixed monthly cost. Also, you need to insure the vehicle yourself.

What types of pickup trucks are available to lease?

When looking to lease a pickup up, it's worth considering the different types of cabin styles available. The types of cabs include:

  • Single cab: A two-door pickup, typically with seating for a driver and a passenger.

  • King/ super cab: These pickups have additional small rear windows and sometimes an extra row of seats, ideal for occasional use.

  • Double cab: These pickups feature four individual doors and generous passenger space. Double cab pickups prove particularly popular as they're bigger and spacious inside.

Why lease a pickup truck?

If you're looking to lease a practical vehicle for both work and personal life, then a pickup truck is worth considering. This offers the technology and comfort of a car, along with excellent off-road capabilities. Also, many pickups have a towing capacity up to 3,500kg, as well as a payload over 1,000kg. These are ideal vehicles for carrying heavy loads and offer great practicality. Many drivers like pickup trucks as the high driving position offers excellent visibility of the road ahead. As well, many pickup trucks come with four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) options, making them ideal for off-road adventures. They can tackle rugged terrain, making them popular choices for outdoor enthusiasts. With pickup leasing, you to drive a brand-new pickup truck with the latest features and technology. You can drive a newer pickup but without the long-term commitment of ownership.

What is the difference between a pickup truck and a van?

Both pickup trucks and vans are classed as commercial vehicles and offer excellent practicality. However, they have distinct differences that set them apart. The most noticeable difference is their body style. Pickup trucks typically have an open cargo bed at the rear, separated from the passenger cabin. Vans, on the other hand, have a closed and typically larger cargo area that is integrated with the passenger compartment. Also, pickup trucks are favoured for off-road adventures due to their rugged build, four-wheel drive options, and higher ground clearance. Vans are generally less suited for off-roading. Moreover, pickup trucks are known for their towing capabilities and are often equipped with powerful engines and towing packages, allowing them to tow trailers, boats, or other heavy loads. Vans typically have lower towing capacities in comparison.

What does payload mean?

The pickup truck's payload capacity relates to the amount of weight it can carry (without towing). It includes not only the actual cargo or goods being transported but also any passengers, equipment, or accessories that contribute to the overall weight. Payload varies depending on the make/model/cab type of the pickup you choose. For example, the popular Ford Ranger has a gross payload over 1,000kg, although it's worth checking specific models for an exact figure.

In the context of vehicles, payload is a critical consideration for safety, performance, and compliance with weight regulations. Exceeding a vehicle's payload capacity can lead to reduced maneuverability, increased wear and tear on the vehicle, and even safety hazards such as reduced braking efficiency. Manufacturers typically specify a vehicle's maximum payload capacity in its technical specifications to help users determine how much weight they can safely carry.

Is a credit check required for pickup leasing?

Yes, it is necessary to undergo a credit check or credit search when leasing a pickup truck. This process entails a comprehensive examination of your financial history and credit report by the creditor. The primary purpose behind this assessment is twofold: first, to evaluate your credibility and financial responsibility as a borrower, and second, to ascertain your capacity to meet the monthly lease payments for the pickup truck. Through the credit check, they gain valuable insights into your creditworthiness.
